When Jennifer and Louis Sukovaty first started raising their family, running a ranch was not on the agenda. Both engineers by trade, the Sukovatys planned to run a small firm that would support their life in the Methow and give them time to raise their children.
But as their first child, Gesa, began to grow, the Sukovatys became concerned with the quality of the food available. As they learned about the relationship between food quality and health, they made the decision to only their child food they had raised themselves.

Jennifer and Louis soon moved into the home that Louis grew up in and took over the land of his parents and grandparents. Today, Crown S Ranch encompasses 150 acres of sustainably raised beef, pork, chicken, turkeys, sheep and rabbits. The farm reflects the Sukovatys’ years of engineering experience: Integrated traditional animal husbandry complimented by innovative technology to create a layered, stable system.
“Each animal is part of the system. When we bring a new animal species on the farm, we find a habitat that is right for the animal,” Jennifer says. “You have to look historically and say ‘It has a beak and claws or hooves and how does it integrate with the rest of nature.’ When the chickens follow the cattle, they eat the larvae of the hornflies, which helps keep the ranch fly-free without the use of pesticides.”
